What To Expect On Your First Chiropractic Visit

Your first chiropractic visit can be a daunting experience, especially if you’ve never been to a chiropractor before. A myriad of questions might be going through your mind: Am I in the right place? Am I going to be able to tell them what’s wrong ? Will I be examined before I get treated? Will I be referred for x-rays?

The first chiropractic visit to Point Cook Chiropractic Health & Wellness Centre will be a fact-finding session. We want to discover what’s going on with you and if chiropractic can help. There are essentially two outcomes to your first visit:

  1. We will find out that you’re in the right place to get the care that you need, OR
  2. We will find out that you’re not in the right place. If so, we will do our best to direct you to those who can.

Your chiropractor will help you discover if you're in the right place to get help.

3 Steps To Discover If We Can Help You On Your First Visit

In our office, we consider ourselves as thorough. On your first chiropractic visit, you don’t just come in and get a chiropractic adjustment without a proper process. To make sure that you’re in the right place, we need to leave no stone unturned in this discovery session.

You will first fill out a standard Initial Consultation form. Then, you will meet your chiropractor who will bring you to a private consultation room to conduct the initial consultation.

There are essentially 3 stages in the initial consultation:

  1. History Taking: Your chiropractor will discuss what’s wrong and how it’s affecting you. You will want to share details of your health concerns, which may include: What hurts? How does it feel? Is the pain in one region or does it go elsewhere? Does the condition change through the day? What have you done to help yourself? How long has your condition been like this? What are the events surrounding and leading up to the symptoms?
  2. Physical and Chiropractic Examination: Your chiropractor will perform tests to assess your health, with particular attention to your spine. How it looks, moves and feels. By the end, your chiropractor will have a good idea if chiropractic could help and will let you know.
  3. Conclusion: By this stage, your chiropractor can either refer you for further tests, provide a chiropractic adjustment or both. This will be to your chiropractor’s discretion. Your chiropractor will not give an adjustment if the information is incomplete or insufficient to make a safe call. Instead, they may provide some home advice (e.g. Stretches, Ice or heat).
