Do you suffer from neck pain?
Neck pain is a common ailment and its character can range from simple neck stiffness when moving, to sharp severe pain that prevents movement altogether. It can stay locally within the neck, where the sufferer can point to its exact position. Alternatively, it can refer down the arm or towards the head. When it goes towards the head, it may lead to headache while arm involvement may include numbness or tingling (pins and needles sensation) or dull ache of the arm, shoulder, forearm or wrist.
It can be caused by a similarly broad range of events, from a sudden specific movement or collision (eg. Sporting injury or motor vehicle accident) to a slow build up of stress, usually caused by poor posture or ergonomics.
In any form it manifests, neck conditions are never comfortable or convenient. It can feel like a pinched nerve or a 'crick' in the neck. Oftentimes people dismiss it as just a pinched nerve and think nothing further of it. However, a pinched nerve can stay for a long period, usually having some spikes in pain and discomfort and may start symptoms further along, such as pins and needles in the arms or headaches.
It is usually advisable to have the pain attended to since the chances of it staying, or worsening, increases rather than decreases over time.
